Event details: time, venue, spectators and coachesWhat is the RGV Open?
The RGV Open is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournament series in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, with events in Brownsville, McAllen and Harlingen. It has divisions for kids, teens, adults and masters, in gi and no-gi, at every belt level. The Tournament Directors are Martha and Manny Galvan.
Our tagline is “Your First Tournament.” We want the RGV Open to be the first tournament everyone in the Valley competes at, and the first one they think of when they think about competing here.
How is the RGV Open run?
We run it the way the big tournaments are run, so competitors are ready for bigger stages. Our aim is to be the safest and fairest tournament in the Valley.
- IBJJF rules, with no advantages.
- Every competitor is divided by age, weight and belt.
- All of our referees are black belts with extensive experience and training.
- Up to 8 mats can run at once, depending on the number of competitors.
- Gi and no-gi divisions for kids, teens, adults and masters.
Is the RGV Open a good first tournament?
That is what it is built for. Kids, teens and adults compete against people of their own age, weight and belt, under the IBJJF rules they will meet at bigger events, with black-belt referees on every match.
Registration, divisions and brackets are all handled on Smoothcomp.
